eing single when you’re young can be fun, but when you’re dating over 50 the fun inherent in the process of finding a suitor in your youth is almost completely stripped of its frivolity. It may be because time is no longer on your side, thus the impulse to allow the process unravel in its playful kind of way is thwarted. Or it may just be that having been around the block one time too many, age bestows upon singles over 50 a wisdom that defies fun and games in finding a mate.
Whatever it may be, dating over 50 becomes a matter that is so laden with expectations that to embark upon the dating scene at this age with your heart on your sleeve is ill-advised. The pressure to settle down almost immediately after finding a mate, and the general seriousness with which people dating over 50 imbue the dating process would make anyone frightful at the prospect of dating in that age range. There’s such finality about it all and it is patently clear that the dating process is a means to an end – no pun intended – an end that most lay people would rather not think about.
So if dating over 50 is something that is a prospect personally or for those loved ones who are facing the reality of being newly single over 50, then it is well advised to be prepared for the fact that the point of dating at this age is not the fun and games one has come to expect of the dating scene. But rather, that the point is to satisfy an end that will come whether one is prepared or not.
