F or a long time, health experts have used BMI or body mass index to determine whether a person has healthy body weight, or whether they are overweight or even obese. However, questions continue to emerge about whether BMI is an accurate indicator of a person's body weight. A study conducted by the University of Newcastle indicates that there are plenty of people, especially women, who have been labeled as obese when in reality they are not. There have been suggestions made to include a person's gender and age when calculating BMI. Taking these factors into consideration makes the results more accurate. Even after these findings came to light, doctors still insist BMI is going nowhere and is here to stay. Doctors advice anyone whose BMI indicates they are overweight or obese to eat healthy and be active or exercise more. [Photo: huffingtonpost.com]
