sed travel trailers, sometimes called mobile homes, are a great idea if you like moving around or even just if you like travelling but prefer avoiding the hassle of booking hotels and restaurants. With a travel trailer, in fact, you have a small home at your disposal that you can park just about anywhere. Furthermore, buying a used travel trailer is a good idea for various reasons, one of them being without a doubt the lower price than if you would buy a new one. As with everything you choose second-hand, however, there are a few things you need to look at.
Mechanics
Road safety is the first thing you need to consider – you don’t want a trailer that breaks down along the road or, worse, that creates problems for you while you are driving. Check that the frame is not rusty, and make sure that there are no broken welds, cracks, or impact damage. Make sure the wheels are no older than five years old as sunlight can damage them and cause tire failure. Furthermore, have a trusted mechanic inspect the wheel bearings and the brake system.
Structure and Interior
Inspecting the structure of your (maybe) future mobile home is something you can do yourself, with no need of professional help. Check the exterior first: Are there loose panels? Is there separation or peeling off the fiberglass in the side walls? Are the windows in good working order? Do the doors open and close smoothly?
Then walk in: Are there stains on the ceiling or floor? If yes, could they be caused by leaking in the plumbing? Are all electrical appliances working? (Refrigerators are especially important). You should also check whether wallpaper and furnishings are outdated – is it something you wish to change? Because that, of course, would include further costs.
Follow this list and you will be sure to find the right used travel trailer for you. Happy shopping!
