T
he heel pain treatment is effective if you know the varied causes, that generate it as the plantar fasciitis, the heel spur, trauma, and the Achilles tendonitis.
The heel bone, the largest of the 26 bones that make up the foot, is subject to external influences that affect its integrity and therefore our ability to maintain an upright position.
Measures Against Heel Pain
To avoid resorting to heel pain treatments, you can take several measures:
- wear comfortable shoes for not to create problems to the toes, heel and sides, with soles suitable to absorb shock and appropriate plantar for the entire foot;
- wear proper footwear to the activity you are performing;
- don't wear shoes with heels and worn soles;
- if you have to practice physical activity, do stretching exercises before and after;
- eat and rest properly;
- try to lose weight if you are obese.
It's useful to consult a specialist doctor (podiatrist) if the heel pain is frequent and persistent, because there are many diseases that can cause it.
One of the most common causes of pain is the heel spur, a overgrowth which develops in the lower part of the bone and causes strain on the muscles and ligaments of the foot. The cause may be a biomechanical imbalance, the run and the jogging, shoes of the wrong size or too worn, or even obesity.
Heel pain can be caused by an inflammation called plantar fasciitis, rather widespread among athletes who practice run and jumping, that can be very painful and can become worse if you wear shoes without adequate support. The pain may diminish if si riposa o se si cammina, but often the relief is temporary and deceptive because the pain may recur after a prolonged rest.
Other Causes For Heel Pain
The heel pain may also have other causes:
- excessive pronation of the foot;
- rheumatoid arthritis and other forms of arthritis, such as gout;
- bursitis;
- inflammation of the Achilles tendon.
Anti-inflammatories (by mouth or injection), physical exercises, advice on the use of the shoes, bandages, and orthopedic devices, are the first measures recommended by the doctor for heel pain treatment.
