B ohemian Rhapsody (2018) is a biological film about the British rock band Queen. It follows the life of Freddie Mercury from the time he joined the band in 1970 to their performance at Live Aid in Wembley Stadium in 1985. The British-American joint venture is a production by New Regency, 20th Century Fox, Queen Films, and New Regency with Fox acting as the distributor. It was released on November 2nd 2018 in the US and on October 24,2018 in the UK. Since its release, the movie has become highly successful, grossing $774 million globally on a production budget of approximately $50 million. Here's an overview of its success.

Reception

As of January this year, the film has grossed $198.5 million in the United States and Canada and $557.6 million in other regions, including $62.8 million in the United Kingdom. On November 11, the film exceeded Straight Outta Compton to become the highest grossing as a musical biographical movie of all time globally. In the UK, it had preview screenings on the opening night, grossing £1.62 million from 575 venues with an average of £2,817 per screen. In South Korea, its debut earned the 2nd position in the box office and by the 4th week took the 1st spot. After a brief drop for two weeks, it reclaimed the first spot in its 7th week; for a Hollywood movie, this is a first.

The Success

The success of Bohemian Rhapsody is largely because of Queen's popularity worldwide. Nevertheless, Fox's marketing team has upped the ante by releasing the film's sing-along versions. They've released it in formats such as Dolby, IMAX, and Screen X. These have performed well in Latin America and Asia. [photo: www.nme.com, Credit: Alamy]
