Admittedly, the halftime show was among the top reasons for people who tuned in, with the likes of pop music’s princess, Katy Perry headlining the show, and rock royalty Lenny Kravitz making an appearance. However, the always much anticipated Super bowl advertisements are well worth the watch, especially since advertisers pay a pretty penny to get their brands on during this epic sporting event. At a whopping US$4.5 million for a thirty second advertisement, NBC as well as the myriad consumer brands who forked out the money to advertise, broke the record of the preceding Super bowl advertising sales by approximately US$500 000; making Super bowl advertising the most expensive advertising on television in the whole of North America. And viewers certainly get the benefit of all the money spent on the advertising, with brands from all kinds of industries pulling out the stops to come up with funny, eye-popping, jaw-dropping and downright ridiculous adverts. All with the intention to captivate this most sought after consumer market.
