ktoberfest is the world’s largest beer festival held annually in Munich, Germany. It runs for 2 weeks from the end of September to the first weekend in October and is a popular destination for Munich vacations with approximately 6 million attendees expected from around the world. Munich is the capital of the German region of Bavaria, located in the South of Germany. It is a beautiful province and great starting point for any Germany vacations.
If you are planning an Oktoberfest Vacation it is best to book accommodation far in advance as there will be no rooms available for the duration of the festival. (More prominent hotels have been known to be reserved for years in advance). Flights will also be booked out early but Munich is easily accessible from many locations around Bavaria.
It is not necessary to book a place in the beer tent but it can be beneficial if arriving at a very busy time such as a weekend or afternoon. Weekends are very hectic at the Oktoberfest Vacation. It is easier to get a spot if in smaller groups.
It is suggested to arrive as early as possible as tents fill up fairly quickly and can be full by noon at weekends as this is the most popular of weekend Munich vacations. Usually, during the day on weekdays, there will be many seats available in the tents but advance bookings will be needed for the evening time.
It is worth bearing in mind that the areas around Oktoberfest will be very noisy long into the night so those who value their quiet time may want to book accommodation a little further away. The infrastructure in Germany is fantastic so it is very easy to get around the city as well as further afield for other Germany vacations.
