he name itself provides a bit of explanation, but a digital signature effectively seeks to be the digital proof that someone came from your computer and was provided with your knowledge. It is created by you, used by you. And will stand up in courts of law within the USA. Once you have created a digital signature, it will generally be stored across the platforms that support that particular method of signing.
The signature is protected via a double hashing system, one part public one part private, that both validates the users identity and the untempered with nature of the signature itself. Both of these must match in order for the signature to be considered valid.
As you can see, the digital signature seeks to be a digital version of an in person signature, but it has become more than that. The secure and completely traceable nature of the digital signature has begun to revolutionize standards for signatures and contracts around the globe. Businesses have also begun to use it as a way to verify the sender of documents and other types of information in this increasingly digital age.
