T his article sheds some surprising information on the history of the NFL. The history of the NFL starts as early as the 20s. The National Football League (NFL) began as the American Professional Football Association (APFA) in 1920, and it wasn't until 1922 when it permanently changed its name to The National Football Federation (NFL). The initial teams were ten teams spanning four states. All the teams were notable champions in their respective states with only two teams out of the ten currently standing. The teams that have withstood the test of time are; The Chicago Bears formerly known as The Decatur Staleys and the Arizona Cardinals, formerly known as The Chicago Cardinals. The history of the NFL is not without hitches. Although the NFL is widely successful today, it had an uphill task trying to establish its presence nationally, and it failed dismally for several decades. NFL held its first championship in 1933, after trying to stabilize the league throughout the 20s and early 30s. In 1927, the league paused signing up of black players but the world war II brought with it drastic changes. First, the league reinstated the signing of black players in 1946. The NFL leadership also evolved to mirror that of Major league Baseball in that, the NFL President's role became a Commissioner Post. The history of the NFL proves that the league has evolved a lot over the decades, something that may have contributed to its success today.
