I n the world of today satellite television is greatly present in many homes and commercial activities. Especially when people travel abroad from their country and they reserve a hotel or a holiday home, they often require satellite tv, so that they can watch their favourite programmes or movies also in a foreign country. Satellite tv is based on a special system which provides programmes using broadcast signals relayed from communication satellites. The signal is received by an outdoor parabolic antenna. You need to have a satellite receiver that decodes the desired television programme or movie. Receivers can be installed outdoor using special set-top boxes, or alternatively you can have an internal television tuner. The satellite receiver demodulates and converts the signals to the desired form and in some cases the receiver can decrypt the received signal. One of the limits of a normal parabolic satellite antenna is the narrow beam width and so it can only receive signals from a single satellite at a time. There are three main categories of satellite television usage: • reception direct by the viewer: it includes direct broadcast satellite and television receive-only, used mainly for homes and commercial activities such as hotels. • reception by local television affiliates • reception by headends for distribution across terrestrial cable systems The first satellite television appears on 23 July 1962 when the Telstar satellite connects television signals from Europe to North America. The first commercial North American satellite carrying television programmes was Canada's geostationary Anik 1, launched on 9 November 1972. In the United States, the satellite TV industry began in the 70s. PBS, a non-profit public broadcasting service, started to distribute its television programming by satellite in 1978. If you want to stay always connected and watch your favourite tv programmes and movies in your language, the satellite tv is the right option for you.
