V ehicles as striking as new SUV’s confer upon their owners something not unlike the ‘halo effect’, wherein positive qualities that aren’t warranted are transferred onto the owner. One of these halo effect qualities is being above reproach in as far as adhering to the rules of the road is concerned. But drivers of new SUV’s are still obliged to adhere to the rules of the road without exception. Although there are SUV drivers that drive well within the bounds of the law, there appears to be a tendency amongst drivers of new high priced cars to think themselves beyond reproach when they’re driving on civilian roads. Whether it’s a sense of being at a level higher than drivers of average cars, which no doubt has everything to do with the SUV, or if the drivers of new SUV’s simply don’t think their SUV should be driving amongst the other ‘lesser’ vehicles; the disregard for fellow drivers is characteristic of luxury and higher priced vehicles such as new SUV’s. Yet new SUV’s are just as liable for driving well within the dictates of the laws as well as driving in a manner that does not endanger or inconvenience fellow road users. This is true of both drivers of new SUV’s as well as non-SUV drivers.
