D odge trucks are perhaps one of the quintessential symbols of masculinity, and the perfect vehicle for any man or woman for that matter who wishes to patently display their masculine sensibilities. The car itself is categorised as a muscle car, which in and of itself lets you know the purpose of the car, show some muscle to all who will see. Firstly, it’s important to understand that masculinity in this context is meant to communicate nothing more than the biologically created factors, and not any socially ascribed attributes of masculinity. That is to say that dodge trucks allow the driver and those watching the driver to feel a sense of strength, physical power and prowess; whether these are real or imagined. Certainly, the car in its physically imposing structure and powerful performance attributes, ascribe the driver with these very attributes by virtue of being behind the wheel of such a masculine looking and performing car. It may be difficult for some to imagine how an inanimate object can have the power to transcribe its attributes to the owner. Yet, dodge trucks are not the only example of inanimate objects transferring certain qualities to the owner; one need only look at all the status symbols that people have acquired which, whether intentionally or unintentionally, communicate certain attributes about the owner or possessor; from clothes to technological gadgets and the like. Dodge trucks are just one of many symbols of masculinity that achieve this level of symbolic transference.
