ummer is here and therefore, it’s time to put the air conditioning on. The struggle to keep your house cooler comes with a hefty sum you have to pay as your electricity bill. However, there are a couple of ways in which you can save your electricity and keep that bill low.
1. Keep the vets open and clean
Whether you have central air conditioning at your home or central heat system, it is essential to make sure your vents are always open and clean. Keeping them open will circulate the air better in your house and will take the system lesser time to reach the right temperature.
Apart from that, you must clean the air filters in your vents, every month for a cleaner and healthier environment.
2. Stuff your refrigerator
Keeping your fridge and freezer full allows the refrigerator to use lesser amount of electricity to keep it cool as the food acts as an insulator.
3. Use power strips
Most devices use electricity when turned off as the plug still stays on. This accounts to phantom load and is thus, can contribute a lot to your bill without your knowledge. Plugging devices like computer, TV, and stereos on a power strip and turning the latter off instead of the devices will reduce your electricity usage a lot.
4. Reduce the heat on the dishwasher and washing machines
Using hot water methods in both the machines accounts for high energy consumption. You can simply reduce it by not using the drying method in both of them which will reduce the amount of heat taken up by the appliance. You can also use cold water wash in the washing machine.
