T he Christmas shopping period got off to a big start on Black Friday, with more than $6 billion spent by shoppers hungry for a deal. The top sellers on Friday were laptops, with many taking advantage of the sales to upgrade their machines. According to Amazon.com, the three biggest selling laptops were the Acer Aspire 1, the New Apple 13" MacBook Air and the Asus C302CA-DHM4 Chromebook Flip. Here’s a quick rundown on these three laptops. Asus C302CA-DHM4 Chromebook Flip ($474.99, normally $499) A versatile touchscreen, this stylish Chromebook uses a neat hinge to flip between a high-powered laptop and a handy tablet. It offers a ten hour battery life, backlit keyboard and two USB-C ports. It also includes a light detector that automatically adjusts the brightness to suit the lighting around it. Simple, affordable and powerful, this is a great laptop for both beginners and long-time users. New Apple 13" MacBook Air (2017 version) ($928) The Macbook Air is as iconic as any of Apple’s other products. While the newer 2018 version is available, the 2017 version is much cheaper and offers the Mojave OS. It may not be as powerful as the more expensive 2018 version, it’s still got an impressive punch. “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” could be the motto for this laptop. It’s solid, durable and affordable, with an impressively powerful harddrive and a decent amount of space. Acer Aspire 1 A114-32-C1YA ($199, normally $249.99) This laptop’s biggest draw is its extremely affordable price. This is a budget laptop with a lightweight design and a 1080p display that stands up to everything competitors offer. Ultimately, this is a cheap laptop that doesn’t set the world on fire, but does offer perfectly good quality at a very reasonable price.
