T
he release of hundreds of movies takes place annually and some inevitably slip through the cracks. Whether it's from poor marketing or distribution, you'll constantly find great movies that aren't well known. Here's a list of movies you've probably never heard of.
Monsters
You've probably heard of Gareth Edwards who first gained extensive recognition for Monsters. Before he directed Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, he helmed a small movie called Monsters. He shot, edited, and directed the movie himself with a budget of less than $500,000. Although a low budget restricted the special effects, the director won praise for leaving the monsters mostly unseen.
City of Lost Children
Marc Caro and Jean-Pierre directed the dark and beautiful film, which is a must-see for Tim Burton's fans. The movie is a terrifying examination of immortality and madness. It's based on an aging crazy scientist who abducts children and steals their dreams because he can't dream himself. With a cast of strange characters, inspired acting, and twisting soundtrack, the movie is a delight for any film lover.
The Station Agent
Before his role in the Game of Thrones, Peter Dinklage gave a stellar performance in The Station Agent (2003). The impeccably scripted and acted film introduced small audiences to a notable actor in a powerful story.
Dinklage plays the role of a man with dwarfism who becomes a curiosity in a town while trying to live a solitude life. The intriguing and heartbreaking movie maintains its humanity and dignity even in difficult parts.
This list is a great place to start if you're looking for overlooked movies.
