T he all-new 2018 Honda Accord has been released and has been regarded by Honda Motors as the most impressive Honda ever thanks to innovation spanning close to 41 years ago. The 2018 Accord V6 predecessors where specifically designed with harder chassis along with suspension tuning to provide space for the entire family along with enhancing the driving experience.  The 2018 Honda Accord V6 model seems to be contradicting the previous versions with a whole bunch of new features including a lighter chassis, the new Civic Type R engine replacing the V6 engine making it more of a sporty sedan rather than a family car. Features and Specs Honda Accord’s tenth generation boosts of Civic Type R turbocharged engine that will either have a 1.5-liter or a 2.0-liter fuel capacity. Honda replaced the naturally aspirated V6 with the turbocharged four-cylinders Civic Type R engine particular because of emissions regulations along with other mid-size sedan manufacturers notably Chevrolet, Hyundai and Kia have successfully dropped the V6 engines in their latest 2018 models. Accord’s new engine provides 252 horsepower and 273 lb.-ft of torque at 5500 rpm compared to the V6 engine in the ninth generation. The 1.5-liter engine capacity is even more impressive producing 192 pound-feet of torque from 1,600 to 5,000 rpm. Additionally, the 1.5-liter is provided with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) as the standard while the 2.0-liter engine comes with a modern 10-speed automatic transmission with the choice of a six-speed manual for both engines. The car design has also been enhanced with a longer, lower, lighter and broader body coupled a slightly lower seating position and fewer overhangs as compared to the previous generations providing it with an elegant modern yet sporty look. The Accord 2018 model comes only in the Sedan model with Honda dropping the Coupe model for the 10th generation. Honda will produce Accord 2018 in three primary levels: the LX base level, the EX trim middle level and Touring being the top level each with different features and pricing. The LX base level 1.5-liter CVT pricing starts at around $26,000 with the standard equipment features including a 7-inch Driver Information interface, LED running lights, Active Noise Cancellation, electric parking brake with automatic brake holding brake among other standard features. The Sports model in this class would cost a lot more but with enhanced features including chrome exhaust tips, decklid spoiler, improved stereo system and LED fog lamps for an overall sporty appearance. The middle-class EX-trim price starts at around $28,500 with the EX-L going for $30, 845 depending on the dealer. The trim level comes with a moonroof, keyless entry with automatic locking, an active shutter grille, heated side mirrors, and blind-spot detection coupled with cross-traffic monitoring. Top of the Accord’s 10th generation is the Touring class with a base price of $35,000 with modern features including wireless charging, ventilated front seats, adaptive damping, head-up display along with mobile hotspot capability. Safety and Driver Assistance Features For the tenth Accord generation, Honda seems to have invested more in the driver’s safety along with comfortability attributed to the integration of Honda Sensing Technology to the car's systems. Honda Sensing technology is a full suite of safety and driver-assistive technologies designed to assist and protect the driver along with the passengers. The technology includes the following:
  • Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS)
  • Road Departure Mitigation System (RDM)
  • Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS)
  • Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)
  • Traffic Sign Recognition
The Bottom Line The 2018 Honda Accord is both a classic and sporty car that significantly employed modern technology to provide out of the world driving experience. The car will still feature the timeless Koenigsegg-style no-transmission hybrid setup and will be produced in Marysville, Ohio.
